Flushometer Blamed For Stadium Flooding

Officials at the Cleveland Brown’s Stadium have figured out what caused the unexpected
flood during a Kenny Chesney concert a couple weekends back.

A device called a Flushometer apparently failed. This is a plumbing device that uses pressure from the water supply rather than the force of gravity to flush toilets and urinals. The flushometer was propped up in the “open” position due to sediment that had settled in the water line. This caused 2 1/2 more times water to come into the stadium than was going out, which caused the massive flooding.

The locker rooms and stadium both need to be gutted and refurbished as a result of the flushometer failure. The stadium is still in the process of “drying out.”

Officials say that they hope to have the stadium up and running before the first game, scheduled for August 11, 2007.
