Yes, they happen!
Today in Mentor, a suburb of Cleveland, it was reported that there was an earthquake that measured 3.1 on the seismic scale and lasted about 3 seconds.
Granted it wasn't very big, no damage was reported, but you could feel it if you were nearby... and it's happened ...
