Tower City Enforces Strict Ban On Teenagers

Being a “mallrat” is no longer an option at Tower City, located in downtown Cleveland. Officials recently put a strict curfew on mall visitors that are under the age of 18 that requires them to be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian after 2:30 PM - seven days a week. If they cant provide ID that shows they’re 18, they’ll be asked by security personnel to leave the premises.

Tower City just began enforcing this new rule yesterday. It’s being used to curb fights and other activities that teens get into.

Now I’m no politician, but this whole thing sounds kind of crazy to me. Kids are allowed to be at the mall until 2:30 PM but the last time I checked, most schools are still in session during these hours on Mondays-Fridays.

It seems unfair to the teens that actually spend their disposable income there without causing trouble - and what about teenage employees? I’m sure there has to be a handful of teenie boppers that hold down a part-time job somewhere within the great expanse of Tower City. How does this help them?

It will be interesting to hear what becomes of this issue, it sounds to me like they are just going to drive business away with an attitude like that. It seems unfair to everyone involved -
will people need an invitation to shop there next?

What are your thoughts on this ban? Is it fair to everyone?

    2. I think that most teens dont actually spend their money there. They mostly hang around and window shop or play around. The sales probably wont go down, and if the mall bans teens, then they’ll just find somewhere else to cause trouble.
