Another QuarterBack Controversy - Will Frye Or Quinn Be The Starter For The Browns?

August 7, 2007 – 8:51 am

One thing you can bet on is that there will be some controversy surrounding who the Brown’s starting Quarterback will be for the 2007 season. This has seemed to be the case for many of the last few football seasons.

This time Charlie Frye and newcomer Brady Quinn are vying for the enviable position of QB, and coach Romeo Crennel is going to be the deciding force of who takes the field for their official season kickoff on September 8, 2007. They’ll face longtime rival, the Pittsburg Steelers to start their regular season.

“Generally in competition somebody steps ahead of the other guy,” Crennel told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “But it’s not always the case. These guys are competing to win the job. Both of them operate the team. I think the team has confidence in both guys. We’ll go into the preseason and see if somebody elevates a little. If not, then I’ll decide who the guy’s going to be.”

Who would you like to see be starting quarterback for the Browns? Frye or Quinn?

  2. frye should start this season, quinn is the better quarterback and is a pure passer, but he has no real nfl experience. the browns should take it slow with him to prevent another tim couch ordeal and ruin a promising player by throwing him to the wolves. it takes years of experience to be able to handle yourself in the nfl. it took peyton 10 years, aikman, elway, young, the list goes on of quarterbacks that turned out to be great after they got plenty of years under their belt. the exception is roethlesburger, but he got lucky to be thrown into a team that was already built and ready to be a contending force. frye looks awkward when he throws and the ball sails on him a lot, but he has started plenty of games and if our o’line blocks for him, he should be able to be a decent qb.
