Being a trashman used to be a decent job. You got to have your daily exercise by walking behind trucks and tossing the garbage into the vehicle. Well, that’s all about to change if Mayor Frank Johnson has his way.

So the city is switching to an automated system.
Residents will get special containers and be instructed how to place them curbside. A truck will pick them up and empty them.

Mayor Frank Jackson pledged no workers will lose their jobs. Some will likely be retrained and reassigned. Local 1099 Business Manage Paul Wells Jr. says the union is taking a “wait and see” approach.

The idea to automate was brought on by the number of worker’s compensation claims that occurred as part of the old system.

Right now workers are being told they’ll be re-trained and kept on, but if they have any brains and can read between the lines they should start looking for greener pastures quick.

Do you think the workers will keep their jobs? Do you think the new plan is good for Cleveland?
