Proving what we already knew (people flush unwanted pets down the toilet) an Akron teen was surprised when he reeled in a five foot long alligator as he fished in Summit Lake.

This fierce alligator was ready to do battle

“It was hard at the beginning but then it got real easy,” Robert said. He thought the alligator gave up after an initial struggle. Robert’s grandmother, Mary Stetler, called Akron police.

“I know the officer didn’t believe me,” she said. But he did send the dog warden. Farrance got the gator out of the water with a catch pole, then took it to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, where it was quietly peering at staff from a children’s pool Wednesday evening. Stephani Palumbo, director of operations, said she hadn’t yet found a permanent home for the reptile.

Luckily everyone involved was okay, because game wardens said the alligator was definitely big enough to hurt people.
