It’s hard to believe that the fifth month of the year is upon us already so it’s time to start thinking about who should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2008.

What bands or performers do you think should be included in the class of 2008?

    2. i would like to see three dog night inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame. their influence in late 60s and 70s rock was felt for years. their songs can still be heard on tv commercials and of course all the oldie stations. Most of all-what a reunion that would be to have all three of them perform on the same stage. true rock n roll legends for their music and their survival of the pitfalls that happen to many rock stars.

    15. For 2008, I think that Rush, The Cars, ELO, Chicago, and Alice Cooper should be inducted into the Rock Hall.

By Jonathan on Jun 24, 2007

    16. Alice Cooper, Dave Clark Five, Journey, The Stooges, and Genesis. It’s not what i want, but it’s an educated guess.

By Seth on Jul 7, 2007

    17. RUSH…No Brainer, count the GOLD/PLATINUM CERTIFICATIONS, the fact that they still sell out Huge Venues to this day, have been going strong since 1968, and each member is considered a major musical influence for their respective instruments should say it all!!!!

By RK on Jul 8, 2007

    18. Numerous inductees who are much more deserving than aome who have alread been inducted. Yes,Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull, Chicago, Moddy Blues, Little Feat, The Cure, New Order, Deep Purple, Loggins and messina to name a few.

By steven litt on Jul 22, 2007

    19. BAD BRAINS! every band can agree. They changed it all, without them music today would look VERY different.

By mikey on Jul 24, 2007

    20. How about a band that completely started a huge area of R&R: Metallica.

By stixandpix on Jul 25, 2007

    21. It doesn’t matter who we—or the voters— think belongs in the Hall of Fame. With Ahmet Ertegun dead, it appears to now be totally up to Jann Wenner. Haven’t you heard about how he supposedly screwed the Dave Clark Five last year in favor of Grandmaster Flash? Or how he presumably insisted that the Monkees not be on the ballot even though they had secured a nomination according to the rules? If you want to know who will get in there, count the number of “Rolling Stone” covers they artist appeared on. When Ertegun was alive, it seemed like everybody who ever recorded for Atlantic Records back in the ’40’s and ’50’s had to be inducted, regardless of how “rock” they were. With Wenner in charge, it will be a totally calculated commercial venture. Pity.

      By F.H. on Jul 26, 2007

    22. Moody Blues without a doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By cdsfl on Jul 29, 2007

    23. I definitely, “second that emotion,” on the Moody Blues and Little Feat! Also, how about
      John Mellencamp, YEAH ?!!

By Sue on Jul 30, 2007

    24. Journey, Rush, Alice Cooper, Kiss, STYX - NEED to be in the R&R Hall of Fame. Journey - the power ballads, Rush - Neil Peart is possibly the best drummer in Rock n Roll, Alice & Kiss - paved the road for Marilyn Manson, Insane Clown Posse…, STYX - Tommy Shaw, need I say more?! I truly hope someone from R&R Hall Of Fame listens to what the public wants. Let’s hope for some great inductees in 2008!!!

By Janet on Jul 31, 2007

    25. John Mellencamp,George Thorogood !!

By Jack on Jul 31, 2007

    26. Rush needs to be inducted. They have always had cutting edge music and vocals. These guys are 3 of the most talented musicians in the music industry. Alex has some of the best guitar rifts in the business. Neil is one of the best drummers ever. Geddy has such a unique voice and his vocal interpretations of their songs are 2nd to none, besides being a great bassist. Let’s give them their right and induct one of the best bands ever.

By hairyrugger on Jul 31, 2007

    27. RUSH!!! their music is incredible. All though their style has not been consistant over the years, it’s been amazing. And they just released ANOTHER amazing album, and are throwing really good live shows. i think it’s time they get inducted… i’ve been avoided the rock hall soley because they aren’t in it yet…

By Ethan on Aug 2, 2007

    28. Rush has to be in. One of the core 15 rock bands of all time. Rush still sounds great live now. Even bands from the 80’s sound old now. Rush just gets better with age. And as for talent? Innovation? Musicianship? Thay lead the list. They are the musicians band!!!!

By John on Aug 3, 2007

    29. The most deserving, in my opinion, is the late, great Warren Zevon. His music and witty humor inspired countless musicians in the 80s and 90s. In fact, many of the artists who performed on his collaboration CD have been inducted already. I consider it a travesty that he continues to be forgotten amongst the music “elite”. Also, King Crimson, as fellow pioneers of prog-rock with Pink Floyd, should join the inductees. They spawned countless big name musicians, including Greg Lake and the recently deceased Boz Burrell, while remaining a consistantly impressive live act.

By Chris on Aug 4, 2007

    30. I Think That Rush, Journey, Genesis, Three Dog Night, The Cars, Super Tramp,The Scorpions, and Guns N’ Roses should be inducted in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

By me on Aug 9, 2007

    31. 1)Tom Waits-One of the best songwriters and musical genius. Why is he overlooked?
2)The Smiths-I think they are eligable 2009, but should definately be in for creating a post punk melodic sound. Great lyrics and compositions as well as basically founding “indie-rock”.
3)the Zombies: because Odyssey and Oracle is one of the most beautiful and greatest albums in rock history. Inspired many new pop rock artists using classical and jazz techniques and great musicianship/singing.
4)ELP: ONe of the greatest musically talented bands in rock history. I dont understand why so much prog-rock is not appreciated, lack of hooks? idk.
5)the Stooges: duh- no stooges basically no punk rock. No Green Day, Nirvana, Ramones, Clash Sex Pistols. You can say the velvets are the grandfathers of punk, but they really created the genre. Shouldnt you be in a hall of fame for creating a genre?
6)Randy Newman: Awesome songwriter/composer, So many of his songs have either been used or influenced by many bands in the hall.
7)Joy Division: Although they were only around for a short time, their work is extremely influencial. They helped pave way for many electronic/dance bands of today along with Suicide as well as post punk bands.
8)Jeff Beck: Another overlooked genius. One of the top 5 best guitarists ever, using unconventional techniques to make different guitar sounds. Maybe hes not in for not having chart topping singles?
9)John Coltrane: If your going to put outside rock genres in such as hip-hop and jazz, Coltrane should be in. He is just about as important as Miles.
10)Gram Parsons/Flying Burrito: One of the greatest artists in rock/country, Creating Country/Rock along with the Band, Neil, Byrds. Without him, there would be no Eagles!
11)Cat Stevens: Superb songwriter, among the singer/songwriter movement along with James Taylor and Joni, I believe hes passed opun because of his religion now, not by his music in the past. Although he just put out a great album.
12)The Cars: One of the best popular bands of the 80’s, Helped popularize Synth Rock, and electronic punk rock bands today
13)Carole King: One of the greatest Songwriters, creating so many hits of the 50s/60’s/70s and today. tapestry is one of the greatest albums.
14)Alice Cooper: Such an influence to the Hair metal of 80s(Van HAlen) and a major early force/influence in the Heavy MEtal genre.

    32. The Moody Blues have been overlooked for too long!!! I’ve seen them many times and they are just as good if not better than they were decades ago.

By Connie on Aug 15, 2007

    33. Absolutely the Moody Blues! They’re timeless - and haven’t missed a beat in 40 years. The Moody Blues have been overlooked for way too long. In fact, even as a Cleveland suberb native, I won’t consider going to the R&R Hall of Fame until they’re in there. Chicago and Genesis should be there, too

    34. MOODY BLUES, paleez!!

By elle on Aug 16, 2007

    35. The Cars - New Wave pioneers.

    36. RUSH - THE ZOMBIES - METALLICA - YES - KISS

By Tim Merrill on Aug 20, 2007

    37. RANDY NEWMAN - TODD RUNDGREN - LOVE - CHEAP TRICK - BLUE OYSTER CULT

By Tim Merrill on Aug 20, 2007

    38. THE MOODY BLUES of course…they are STILL rockin’ at their concerts and are genuine musicians who love what they do. YES, they do ROCK!!! Fantastic performers with incredible songs. Please don’t overlook them in 2008…they so deserve it!

I also agree with ELO, RUSH, HEART, KISS, CHICAGO!!!! Just no hip-hop…they have the Hip-hop Hall of Fame already

By Notginger on Aug 23, 2007

    39. Journey, Styx, Rush, The Moody Blues are all bands that richly deserve to get the nod. All of these bands are legends in their own time, and it is time to induct them.

    41. Top 50 Classic Rock Bands
      From Dave White,
      Your Guide to Classic Rock.

Selections are determined by a combination of album sales, radio airplay, touring history, and degree of continuous popularity. Solo artists are included in a separate list.
      1. The Beatles
      Essential Album: Revolver
With record sales estimated at more than a billion worldwide, no other band had a greater influence on the course of rock music.
      2. Pink Floyd
Essential Album: Wish You Were Here
At the vanguard of the Progressive Rock movement, they have sold more than 200-million albums since 1967.
      3. The Who
      Essential Album: Who’s Next
One of the first, most successful, and longest lasting power trios, The Who were innovative both musically and technically.
      4. Rolling Stones
      Essential Album: Sticky Fingers
The original “bad boys” of rock, the Stones are among the most durable bands, recording and touring with few breaks since they began in 1961.
      5. Led Zeppelin
      Essential Album: Led Zeppelin IV
Their “Stairway To Heaven” is believed to have received more radio airplay than any other song in history, even though it was never released as a single.
      6. Eagles
      Essential Album: Their Greatest Hits
Another of rock’s longest-lasting acts, their 1976 greatest hits album is the biggest selling album of all time.
      7. Grateful Dead
Essential Album: Anthem Of The Sun
One of San Francisco’s first “flower power” bands, their fan following is nearly as strong today as it was when the group disbanded in 1995.
      8. Jefferson Airplane
Essential Album: While Bathing At Baxter’s
Pioneers of the Psychedelic Rock genre, they were in the vanguard of the counter-culture of the ’60s and ’70s.
      9. The Doors
      Essential Album: The Doors
In spite of a short life and limited discography, they became one of rock’s most popular and influential groups.
      10. Moody Blues
Essential Album: Days Of Future Passed
With the exception of a few years in the mid-70s, this Progressive/Psychedelic group has toured and recorded since 1964.

    42. lets see 2008 how about real groups how did the blondie get in before KISS JOURNEY J GIELS STYXX BOSTON RUSH

By chris on Sep 13, 2007

    43. Metallica for sure, although I think this is their first year of eligibility, which might work against them. Deep Purple, Rush, Alice Cooper and how about Bette Midler?? I never enjoyed her music, but she influenced a lot of people including several r&r artists. If they can induct hip-hop and other forms of music into a ‘rock and roll’ HOF, she can nail it easily. I want Iron Maiden inducted, but that may be years down the road. They didn’t get on the radio too much, which seems to hurt some artists on the ballot… such a shame.

By chris on Sep 19, 2007

    44. SID BERNSTEIN!!!

By Herb Malsman on Sep 20, 2007

    45. Rush is at the top of my list. Let’s face it, does any group deserve it more? I challenge any nay-sayer (Jann Wenner) to find me three better musicians than Geddy, Alex, and Neil. That’s pretty hard, because YOU CAN’T. It’s time that this selection committee pulls their heads out of where the sun don’t shine and show prog rock some respect.

Also, Journey deserves an induction. They are probably the best of the “arena rock” genre. Don’t Stop Believin’ alone should get them in.

By Andy on Sep 20, 2007

    46. Also Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

By Andy on Sep 20, 2007

    47. Donna Summer has broken all kinds of records and truly changed the face of music with I Feel Love & Hot Stuff. It was truly innovative and has been covered by many rock bands including Debbie Harry and Red Hot Chili Peppers. She has sung many a rock song and RRHOF is not just about the category Rock & Roll, it is about those artists that have made a significant contribution to the Rock & Roll era and forward.

By frank on Sep 28, 2007

    48. It seems that the HOF didn’t agree with any suggestions here. 2008’s nominees are:

Madonna, The Beastie Boys, John Mellencamp, Donna Summer, Chic, Afrika Bambaataa, literate songwriter Leonard Cohen, the original British Invasion combo The Dave Clark Five and surf rock instrumentalists The Ventures.

Far cry from the Moody Blues or Rush. Madonna isn’t a rock star, she’s a pop star! Even though I like the Beastie Boys, I’m not sure they deserve to be there either..

By Heather McLaughlin on Sep 28, 2007

    49. The HOF is getting to be more of a joke every year. I think we all know who calls the shots as to who gets nominated…and it needs to stop. If Jann Wenner can name himself the head of the “selection committee” can’t someone else do the same thing?

By Andy on Sep 29, 2007

    50. TODD RUNDGREN

By Bob on Oct 4, 2007

    51. KISS………all I can say is “Longevity”….that alone, love ‘em or not, they have been kicking butt for MANY years….I will not point out various artists who have made the Hall that may or may not be “worthy”….but you finally opened your eyes and inducted Lynyrd Skynyrd….not put on your glasses and induct the “Hottest Band in the Land….KISS”

By Joe on Oct 15, 2007

    52. How about nominating a great band from Cleveland Ohio, The Raspberries.

The four original members have been back together since October 2004, have toured in 04-05 and are presently back on the road for a few dates. The original members are joined on stage by their backing-band friends the Overdubs adding up to six-part harmonies and three to four guitars.

June 2007 saw the release of the Live on Sunset Strip CD/DVD package. It was recorded at the House of Blues in L.A. in October 2005.

Having just performed in New York City on Oct. 13 & 14 2007, they will be playing in Cleveland on Friday Dec 14/07. More shows will soon be announced. They sound tighter and more energetic and powerful than ever. Go to raspberriesonline dot com - Click Videos at the top.
