Van Halen
By GEORGE VREELAND HILL on Nov 2, 2006
I’d have to say Van Halen. The question is, are they dedicating it more toward the David Lee Roth years or the Sammy Hagar years? Might be something to discuss
I really like the blog you have going here. If you have some extra room in your sidebar for a good Browns site, check mine out. The link should be in my name.
Thanks for considering, and keep up the good work here!

WHERE IS KISS?!?!?!?!?!
Muisically, Kiss is like a big mac. Sometimes just greasy empty calories, Sometimes it hits the spot. Never a good thing in too large a quantity. However, the standard for induction is effect on the industry or something like that. Van Halen owes Kiss. Motley Crue, et al. owe Kiss.
Was it a good effect? Who cares. Kiss changed the industry. They are worthy.

I must say that this induction process is a sham. Considering the weak list of candidates, I wondered to myself, “How come Depeche Mode hasn’t been nominated for the 2007 Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame?” How do you deny a band that has influenced scores of its predecessors, has a major tour presence, and redefined a genre of music.
I think it’s a shame that a band like Chic and the Furious Five get nominated but a band like Depeche Mode is left stranded.

Why are bands like Rush, Yes, Chicago and Genesis snubbed for non-rock bands like Chic and Grandmaster Flash? Give me a break!

My name is Jim, and I have been VERY dissapointed that Van Halen has been eligable to be inducted into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame for the past 2 or 3 years now, and they are just now being nominated. When Van Halen first came onto the scene in 1978, with their first album, the Rock world came to a screching halt, and the world stood up and took notice. No one had ever heard a sound like their’s, especially the guitar antics of Eddie Van Halen. Want proof? VH1 did a survey, of the greatist gutiarist ever, (dead or alive), and the voting was strictly done by the fans, not a bunch of DJ’s and insider music excetives. The result: (#1 Eddie Van Halen), (#2 Jimi Hendrix), & (#3 Eric Clapton). And that’s the fans speaking ! When Eddie and the guys hit the scene, it was one of those rare moments, that changed the way rock-n-roll was played, looked at, and evolved. If Van Halen isn’t R&R Hall of Fame worthy, then at least half of the ones that have been inducted need to be taken out. Personally, if Van Halen is not inducted this year, I will NEVER visit the Rock-N-Roll hall of fame. And judging by VH1’s vote by Rock fans all over the world, I’m not the only one who feels that way. I’m not posting this to critize the R&R Hall of Fame, nor the ones who’ve already been inducted. You asked for comments, and I’m just being honest about my opinion.
Thanks for giving me the oppertunity to voice my opinion,
Jim Barham.

When Will You Induct Judas Priest
By When on Jan 8, 2007
How dare an Halen be iducted into the “Rock N’ Roll” hall of fame without the person that made “Van Halen” Van Halen?!?! David Lee Roth was, and always will be the only original singer of “Van Halen”. Sammy Hagar came in to an already established legondary band thanks to Roth, and Roth should be fronting the induction into the hall of fame.
By Lori on Jan 9, 2007
Eddie Van Halen is the one that is the main man in Van Halen!!!! I don’t know where the hell u get off saying it’s David Lee Roth??!!! He’s nothin’ but a baldass hasbeen now!!!! Eddie always will and always has had WAY more talent than David Lee could ever even imagine in that short career of his!!!!!!!!!!!! LOSER!
By Denice on Jan 19, 2007
Van halen truly deserve to be inducted. If one considers eddie van halens guitar approach alone this warrants van halen the rock group to be inducted. They were at the time a breath of fresh air (or hair) for the rock music industry, in their delivery dynamic and exciting approach.
By steve on Jan 29, 2007
Depeche Mode hands down, they revolutionized music, and were one of the new wave leaders. plus there still alive and singing today!
By Dylan on Jan 29, 2007
Dopes.
Van Halen (the band, not the guitar player) is on the ballot. The RRHoF site indicates both lineups with Roth and Hagar.
Do us all a favor and leave RUSH, Yes, Genesis out of the Hall. Don’t diminish the careers, musicianship and achievements the level of the 1-hit wonders and bubble-gum pop artitsts that are in there already. Chic? The Ronettes? C’mon!
How about a Prog-Rock Hall of Fame?
If you think this list is bad, wait until 2010 when you’ll probably start seeing Backstreet Boys, Menudo, and other durpity-durp schmucks. Hmmm…I wonder when Milli Vanilli and Right Said Fred are eligible…
By Doug on Feb 1, 2007
David Lee Roth had 7 years with Van Halen thats hardly a SHORT career. His solo one went one after that for a few more years (not as popular as his Van Hlen day granted) but he did go on. Sammy should get in for Sammy not Halen. My question is why is it so hard for the RRHOF to set aside a spot in rock history for RUSH? Rush deserves a spot in the hall of fame more than one time. and where the hell is KISS? I think the people should vote for this stuff and not a buncha tie wearing assheads who think thye know what rock n roll is.
By Muppetassassin on Feb 3, 2007
I agre with Greg up there, Depeche Mode should be in if REM is. Way more influential and still bigger then they are today? I think they deserve it, but maybe next year since they are just recently eligible.
By Frank on Feb 9, 2007
Depeche Mode? Kiss? You people are pathetic. Gene Simmons himself would slap y’all alongside the head with his tongue for suggesting that those bands are more deserving of the HOF than Patti Smith Group, Chic, Van Halen, R.E.M. and Grandmaster Flash. The real question is, why the hell didn’t The Stooges make it? They were on the shortlist, and I thought for sure they’d be inducted.
By Wayne Slather on Feb 15, 2007
i just don’t get this panel of “experts” that decides who’s in and who doesn’t deserve to even be nominated
HOW THE #@$%! DO YOU JUSTIFY PUTTING VAN HALEN IN BEFORE RUSH OR GENESIS???!!!
oh yeah, i forgot…it’s the same idiots who think that Bob Seger, Jackson Browne and Billy Joel have had more influence on Rock-n-Roll.
Just a bit of observation…YOU FORGOT TED NUGENT AND JOHN MELLENCAMP!!!
…what a joke this whole process has become
By JimDoe on Feb 23, 2007
What about Leon Russell ?!?!?!??!
Sometime you guys totally ignore us OKIES……..
Ever heard of the Tulsa Sound ?
Also, a suggestion for ‘Sidemen’
Bill Raffensberger, Tulsa, OK - bass for JJ Cale, Eric Clapton
always on stage, in the studio, on the bus - wherever he’s needed
By Ralph on Mar 3, 2007
I truely want to see THE MOODY BLUES in the “Hall of Fame” REAL SOON!!!!
These guys are dedicated musicians. They LOVE their fans. They continue STILL to this day to tour because they LOVE the music!!!!! Let me tell you, they can really put on an amazing concert. They sound JUST like they did in the 60′, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and NOW in the 2000’s. We are talking 5 decades…
AND I AM SURE everyone at one point at their high school had a prom with the theme of “Nights in White Satin” that is a staple slow song. I don’t know if anyone bothers to read this and pass on information to any important “peeps”, but this is a solid, for sure, must be recognized group. THEY ARE TRUELY AMAZING—old—-BUT AMAZING none the least….
“Im just a singer in a rock n’ roll band”, “Ride my Seasaw”, “Question”, “Nights in White Satin”, “The Story in your Eyes”….and the list goes on and on and on and on…………
By Jane on Mar 4, 2007
WHERES KISS PEOPLE,HOW ABOUT ALICE COOPER?????????????
By JOEY SINNER on Mar 4, 2007
Dont see W.A.S.P. or Iron Maiden how about Joan Jett,Motley Crue,Dio,Ect Ect Ect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By JOEY SINNER on Mar 5, 2007
I’m happy van halen have roth back on tour again he is the heart and sould of that band. but my bug problem is where are the cure i mean they weren’t exactly the biggest band durring their 30 year career but they have had a huge impact on post-punk since ‘78 and more now than ever. That and they’re one of the only bands out there that are still making music that makes it on to the charts.
By Justin on Mar 7, 2007
Van Halen? Unbelievable! What have they done in the past 10 years except bitch and complain with each other. Have they had an original studio release since then? Don’t get me wrong, they were a good band. Key word, WERE. Alex Van Halen is a whiner and Eddie’s ego is bigger than Texas. If you want to induct a band into the Hall of Fame that has done nothing but put out great music album after album since 1980, then put Def Leppard in. Name me another band that has been through so much but continue to be as solid as ever today. They have 2, not 1 of their albums on your Definitive 200 list. What do they have to do? Do they have to have a band member lose another arm or have someone else die? I would hope that when the nominations for 2008 are announced that Def Leppard is one of them.

Van Halen deserves to be in and, it Would have been nice to see Everyone there, But, did anyone ever realize Who First discovered Van Halen and got them their record deal?? try Gene Simmons of the LEGENDARY band KISS, who, at the time of finding VH, were the BIGGEST band in the world, out-selling Led Zeppelin And The Rolling Stones 3-1, And breaking Beatles’ attendance records in Japan!! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, what KISS have done in their career and for rock n’ roll, it’s a TOTAL disgrace and just WRONG that they are not in the hall of fame!! oh, but then again, this actually isn’t the ‘Rock n’ Roll’ hall of fame, it’s just a ‘Music’ hall of fame because over HALF of the artists in there are NOT rock n’ roll!! Rap is NOT rock n’ roll you idiots! it’s a WHole other genre of music!! Rock n’ Roll is its Own genre and KISS Are one of the biggest rock bands of all-time (a FACT, NOT an opinion whether you like it or not!) and are Real Rock n’ Roll, just like The Stones, Beatles, CCR, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Joan Jett (who ALSO should be in!!), etc., etc. the ‘rnr hall of fame’ should get Real, get an education in rock n’ roll, or just rename their establishment!!
By DJ on Mar 13, 2007
Kiss sold more gold records than any American band In history. They can tour without any new material and still sell out arenas. They have a resume’ like no other band In history. Their fan base holds conventions on their own. They are huge in Austraila, japan, and numerious third world countries. Why In hell are they not in the Rock n Roll hall of fame!!!!!!!!
By matt on Mar 13, 2007
I think that Johnny Rotten had it correct when he said that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a “piss stain”. It is a joke that is controlled by a few individuals.
To them it is about their own personal tastes rather than credibility of the act or how that individual influenced the cause of rock and roll. These individuals that are in charge need to get a clue and allow a way for fans to be hear in the vote.
That does not mean allowing it to become a popularity contest either, but providing a strict criteria and then allowing some way for the fans to be heard.
I watched this years induction ceremony. Whoever produced the show should be fired or if it was the same insiders making decisions then they need to releave themselves from duty. What a joke you have become Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What a joke you have become.

Dave Clark Five Got Ripped off. This place should be called the Hall Of Shame!
By Rock on Mar 16, 2007
What about Cheap Trick?? They need to be inducted more then Chic and Grandmaster Flash.
To tell you the truth, the whole thing is stupid. It doesn’t mean anything. It’s just an opinion.
By Dennis on Mar 17, 2007
My 2008 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Joan Baez
Leonard Cohen
Bernie Taupin
Chicago
Genesis
It really sucks that the Rock Hall has lowered its inductions from 7 to 5 artists per year! This really blows!
By Roy on Mar 17, 2007
Where the hell is Sid Bernstein?
Phil Spector is there! Chuck Berry is there!
Sid Vicious is there! The Stones are there!
The Rascals are there. THE BEATLES ARE THERE!!!
When is Sid’s time. Perhaps you’ll consider him
posthumously!
What an honor!
By herb malsman on May 3, 2007
What about Leon Russell? If you do a little research, you’ll find that he should already be in the hall. What an amazing career and talent this man is. He has done so many things for rock ‘n roll and played with so many other artists. Let’s get him in the hall asap!
By Doug on May 3, 2007
The judges for the r&r hall of fame are a bunch of snooty f#%@’s. What gives them the right to determine who deserves induction. It should be by popular vote! Last I remember, rock & roll is about fun, not a bunch of fat-heads overanalyzing the importance of some obscure, possibly influential band that no-one but their mothers have heard of.
By rush-and-kiss-now on May 12, 2007
I’m going to lean towards van halen because I’m a fan of them, but they have really left off some good bands! rush, kiss, metallica, chicago, motley crue! come on people! REM is good though, but i’m still rooting for van halen.
By Hannah on May 16, 2007
I think for the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame 2008, it should be Rush, Journey, The Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, Chicago, ELO, Meat Loaf, The Cars, Alice Cooper, and Cheap Trick.
By Jonathan on May 31, 2007
i also think Stephan wolf, the Guess who, the Zombies, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers
By me on Aug 10, 2007
It is an absolute travesty that KISS has not been inducted into thr hall of fame! Their influence on rock and roll is 2nd to none and it leads me to believe that the hall of fame is a joke! I think that the fans should play a part on who gets in and not just a bunch of critics who have no idea what rock and roll music is! KISS deserves the induction!!!!
By Antonio on Aug 20, 2007
Genesis will be inducted this year I think. I think they are a shue in because of they’re reformation and all the hype around them this year. They are also one of the most influential bands of the 70s and 80s.
By Scott on Sep 2, 2007
it was 3:00 am when i wrote my first message…I meant to say ..PIPELINE.. BY THE VENTURES..
BUT NONE THE LESS …Guitar players all OVER THE WORLD..HAVE AND DO PLAY THE VENTURES
HITS… THEY SHOULD BE IN THE HOF…….
By KSSOLOMON on Sep 30, 2007
I would say the biggest tragedy that is the Rock’n'Roll Hall of Fame is not having YET inducted Chicago. C’mon. As one of the first rock bands with intergrated horns, Chicago has produced 30 albums in 40 years with dozens and dozens of hit songs, as well as albums that have always made the charts. AND they still perform more than 200 concerts a year. Their impact on music is at the very least enough for induction. Don’t know what else you expect from a rock band to be included in this dang Hall of Fame.
