Adding a Roof to the Brown’s Stadium

Is this the next big thing to reinvigorate growth in Downtown Cleveland?

Chances are, it couldn’t hurt. It’s a giant complex right on the lake that sits empty most days of the year, with its bright orange seats absorbing the sun.

This is why developer Bob Corna wants to put a lid on it. A retractable one. He feels that this improvement could open the door for other venues to utilize the space for trade shows, concerts and other events. If nothing else, it would qualify Cleveland to be the home of an upcoming Superbowl (whether or not the Brown’s play in it.) and help to stimulate the economy with an alternative to the IX Center in Brook Park.
Mr. Corna would also like to build an aquarium and a hotel between the stadium and the lake to draw even more visitors to the area.

Built in 1995, the Browns Stadium was constructed quickly and without thinking of future growth needs, and overlooking the obvious need for a large multi use facility in downtown.

This project could cost up to 90 million dollars and could be funded from a number of sources, including higher “sin” taxes on alcohol and cigarettes.

Mayor Frank Jackson has yet to comment on whether he supports this idea or not.
I think it would be foolish not to want to improve something that Cleveland already has, and try to generate a few more dollars for the 216.
