2006 Rock-N-Roll HOF Induction Ceremony mired with Controversy

I wasn’t present at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, but it sounds like it went over like a lead balloon.
This years inductees included Black Sabbath, Blondie aka Debbie Harry, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Sex Pistols and Miles Davis.
Of all the inductees, Lynyrd Skynyrd was the only band that got along and
didn’t cause a commotion.
The Sex Pistols weren’t interested in any awards, and sent a profane letter
stating their disinterest. If they happen to change their minds, their trophies will be waiting here in Cleveland. (Wonder if this will become a permanent display someday.. the only artists to turn down this honored award?)
Black Sabbath didn’t take their award without comment, either. The award should have been bestowed upon them 10 years ago… although Ozzy Osbourne did say that it “was an achievement” and “he was proud of it”
Blondie was the most notable inductee for the evening. Her and former bandmates of that era, Frank Infante, Nigel Harrison and Gary Valentine had a rather embarrassing moment when they asked Ms. Harry to allow them to perform with her, and she curtly refused. Then Blondie went on to perform “Heart of Glass” and “Rapture” without them.
Seems to me that awards aren’t even enough to make people act decent sometimes… so why should we continue to award them at all?
But then again, I guess it’s “Rock-N-Roll” and when has anyone acted with class and finesse in that biz..
